The site is located in Feltham Town Centre and is marked in red on the diagram below. To the north is the railway line, to the east is Longford River, to the south a McDonald’s restaurant and to the west of this is ‘The Centre’ shopping complex.
The site is currently occupied by a single storey Sue Ryder shop; the remainder of the site is used as car parking. The building is located to the rear of the site with car parking located to the south and west. A footpath runs to the north of the site providing access to Feltham Station. The surrounding area is a mixture of uses including St Giles Heathrow Airport Hotel and a Lidl supermarket. The shopping centre opposite the site houses a variety of shops. Bedfont Lane, mostly provides car park and servicing access to the centre.
The site today
The buildings surrounding the site are quite varied in height. Opposite the site, the shopping complex is 7-8 storeys in height. To the east the McDonald’s restaurant is a single storey building. Located to the north east is a 5 storey, residential building, Felbridge Court which sits adjacent to the Longford River which is a designated area of local open space and a site of importance for nature conservation (SINC). The Feltham Town Centre Conservation Area is located to the east and the nearest listed building is the Grade II tower and spire of the former Church of St. Catherine on the high street.
Victorian and Edwardian semi-detached and detached homes dominate Hanworth Road and the Conservation Area. A series of residential high-rise buildings were built during the 60s and 70s. These buildings had a considerable impact on the town centre. Some of these were demolished during the early 2000s and replaced with new build apartments with a more pleasing aesthetic.
The site is well served by public transport. Feltham benefits from a railway station with regular direct services to and from London Waterloo and Reading stations operated by South West Trains. Feltham station is in TfL Zone 6. As the site is close to the station it is also served by several local bus routes.
Hatton Cross Underground Station provides a central London rail option to Feltham. It is 2.4 km north of the town centre and can be reached in 20 minutes with bus routes 90, 285 and 490.
The combination of easy accessibility to buses and trains gives the site a current TfL PTAL (Public Transport Accessibility Level) rating of 4. The 2021 PTAL forecast for the site is a TfL rating of 5, the highest rating being 6.
Heathrow airport is 2km away from the site providing international connections.
There are a number of public open spaces in close proximity to the site. Feltham Green and Bridge House Pond are small parks with water features that offer local places to relax. Blenheim Park, Glebelands Playing Fields, Feltham Arena and Grosvenor Park provide equipped play, sports courts and open space.
